Advection

Created

Advection = heat carried by a flowing fluid. It is Sensible heat per second: Q=mCpΔT  →  ÷t    Q˙adv=m˙ Cp ΔT=V˙ρ Cp ΔT[W]Q = m C_p \Delta T \;\xrightarrow{\;\div t\;}\; \dot Q_{adv} = \dot m\, C_p\, \Delta T = \dot V \rho\, C_p\, \Delta T \quad [\text{W}]

  • V˙=Apipe v=πri2v\dot V = A_{pipe}\, v = \pi r_i^2 v [m³/s]
  • Volumetric heat capacity ρCp\rho C_p [J/(m³K)] = heat to warm 1 m³ by 1 K. If given in J/(m³K), ρ\rho is already inside → don’t multiply by ρ\rho again
